How to pause a ps4 download

Hi everyone, I have been having issues with my PS4. Everytime I download a game update for my PS4 it'll download just fine until I pause the download and cut the system off or pause the download in general it'll reset the entire download and I have to start all over and it's pretty annoying, how do I fix this or is it even fixable?.
